Moonshot AI raised funding quickly after its founding and reached a valuation of $31.5 billion, placing it among the most closely watched AI startups in China, with the company pursuing a subsequent pre-IPO round at a valuation of as much as $50 billion ahead of a planned Hong Kong initial public offering. The company competes in a domestic market that includes Baidu, Alibaba, and ByteDance, all of which have invested heavily in their own foundation models. Globally, its Kimi models are compared to offerings from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google $GOOGL.
