Auqib Nabi signs with Surrey to play three championship games

Fast bowler Auqib Nabi is the latest Indian player to sign a county deal as Surrey confirmed his availability to play in their next three Championship fixtures. Nabi has signed a short-term deal that will see him being available to feature against Yorkshire, Sussex and Glamorgan.

“With the exceptionally challenging schedule of six games in six weeks, with minimal recovery between matches along with international fixtures, we’ve had to add options to our bowling stocks for the County Championship run in,” Alec Stewart, Director of Men’s Cricket, said. “We look forward to welcoming Auqib to the group this week.”

Nabi has enjoyed a purple patch over the last few months during which he helped Jammu and Kashmir win their maiden Ranji Trophy title by picking up 60 wickets in the campaign that earned him the player of the tournament award. His exploits then earned him a bumper IPL contract with Delhi Capitals for the 2026 season in which he played five games.

The 29-year-old also represented India A recently and was a part of the senior Test squad in Sri Lanka as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement even though he didn’t get to make his international bow.

“It’s an honour to join Surrey, one of the best Clubs in England,” Nabi said. “I’m looking forward to learning from the group and helping them for the next three matches.”

Surrey, who won a hat-trick of titles from 2022-24, are currently languishing in the eighth spot on the Division One table.
