EXCLUSIVE: The filming window for Widow’s Bay season 2 has been revealed.
With a “Certified Fresh” 98% critics’ score and a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Apple TV’s horror-comedy series has become a massive word-of-mouth hit and received 19 Emmy Award nominations. Ahead of the main ceremny, it has already won eight Creative Arts Emmys, including Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series. Betty Gilpin won for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series and Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Dale Dickey, and Hamish Linklater landed nominations in their respective acting categories as well.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley at the Toronto International Film Festival about her new film, Tender Loving Care, O’Flynn was asked if she knew anything about Widow’s Bay season 2 filming. While she doesn’t know exactly when production will start, she shared that it is expected to begin around March. Check out her comments below:
Zip. I don’t know. I know it’s hopefully March time, I think, we might be filming season 2. But I don’t know anything else about it, honestly.
Widow’s Bay season 2 was renewed ahead of the season 1 finale, and updates since then have included the writers’ room being open and Jeff Hiller moving from a guest star to a series regular. While progress is being made, with production now expected to begin in March, the show is poised to return more than a year after the first season, which debuted in April 2026 and concluded in June. Based on the anticipated filming window, late 2027 is likely the earliest that the series will come back.
O’Flynn plays Patricia Moyer, the assistant to Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys). She quickly became a fan-favorite character, especially after season 1, episode 4, “Beach Reads,” which largely shifts the focus to her, and is the highest-rated of the entire series so far on IMDb with an 8.8/10. This was followed by an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series nomination alongside her co-star, Dickey, Hannah Einbinder (Hacks), Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), Michelle Pfeiffer (Margo’s Got Money Troubles), Megan Stalter (Hacks), and Jessica Williams (Shrinking).
As for where the story is headed after the Widow’s Bay season 1 ending, Tom must conceal that his son, Evan Loftis (Kingston Rumi Southwick), is a descendant of Richard Warren (Linklater) in order to protect him, even though it means that the curse will remain on the island. Patricia and Wyck Crawford (Root), who were helping Tom try to break the curse throughout the season, do not know this secret yet, and will be faced with difficult questions if they ever learn of it.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Bechir Clemmons (Kevin Carroll) has to reconcile with having his child born on the island, meaning they can never leave, and having shot Ruth Livingston (Katherine Callan) in the Widow’s Bay season 1 finale. There is also more to be learned about the island’s mythology and the demonic entity that Richard Warren made a deal with that remains the overarching threat. After O’Flynn’s update on season 2’s filming, viewers now have a better idea of when they can expect to get more answers, horror, and comedy.
