Sri Lanka have announced their 15-member squad for the 2026 Asian Games, with the bulk of the lineup retained from the Women’s Asia Cup.
Led by Chamari Athapaththu, the squad included four changes: Vishmi Gunaratne, Nilakshika Silva and Chetana Vimukthi are those missing from the Asia Cup squad. Silva was incidentally the third-highest run-getter in the competition, behind only Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. Dewmi Vihanga has also been excluded.
Vimukthi played three games, picking as many wickets, while Gunaratne played two games, including the final, where Sri Lanka lost by 72 runs to India.
The changes allow the inclusion of Rashmika Sewwandi, who played against Pakistan in August, Hansima Karunaratne, Nimasha Meepage as well as Anushka Sanjeewani. Meepage featured in the Pakistan series as well before being left out of the Asia Cup. Sanjeewani’s last T20I came back in March 2025, as part of Sri Lanka’s tour to New Zealand.
Sri Lanka begin their campaign against Malaysia Women on September 18, 2026 in the third quarter-final at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
Sri Lanka topped Group B in the Asia Cup, winning all their games in the group stage, before beating Pakistan in the semi-final. They were outplayed by India in the final, bowled out for 111 in response to India’s 183/5.
