India and Pakistan have marched into the semifinals of the Asian Games 2026 after both their respective quarterfinals were washed out due to inclement weather.
Pakistan were due to take on Hong Kong, China in the first quaterfinal at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin in a morning fixture but incessant rain forced the officials to call off the game without toss. India were due to play their quarterfinal against Afghanistan in the afternoon but wet conditions meant the game was called off even before toss.
As the higher placed sides in the ICC rankings – India are no. 1 and Pakistan are sixth – the two progressed to the semifinals without taking the field. Afghanistan and Hong Kong, China stand knocked out.
India will now face the winnier of the third quarterfinal between Sri Lanka and Nepal, while Pakistan will take on the winnder of Bangladesh versus Malaysia.
