Brydon Carse charged by Cricket Regulator over Derby incident

England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been charged by the Cricket Regulator over an incident in Derby on August 23. The case will be heard by the independent Cricket Discipline Panel.

“Following a Cricket Regulator investigation, Brydon Carse has been charged with breaching Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations, in relation to events in Derby in the early hours of the morning on August 23 2026,” the Regulator said in a statement on Friday. “The matter will now be referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication. As the process is ongoing, no further comment will be made.”

Regulation 3.2 states that “no participant may conduct themself in a manner, do any act or make any omission at any time which is improper or which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.”

Carse was in Derby with his Durham teammates after their County Championship win over Derbyshire. A video on social media showed him in handcuffs outside a nightclub. He was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and later de-arrested. Derbyshire Police also looked into an assault allegation but closed the case last month without taking any action.

The ECB said it would not comment further. “We are aware of the Cricket Regulator’s decision to charge Brydon Carse. Brydon now has the opportunity to respond through the established process,” an ECB spokesperson said in a statement.

“As we do not wish to prejudge the outcome, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further.”

Carse was dropped for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s and has not played for England since. He was not picked for the T20Is or ODIs against Sri Lanka either. On Thursday, he was left out of the squad for this month’s ODI tri-series in Pakistan
