USA TODAY Sports Super 15 Southwest region football rankings, Week 8


After weeks and weeks of nonstop action, the seventh week of the high school football season in the southwest saw its first real lull as several teams in Texas had the week off.

While there were a good number of teams off, not everyone was. The top teams that did play in the region were dominant in their showings as each won by 35 points or more.

Here are USA TODAY Sports’ Week 8 Southwest Region Super 15 rankings.

1. Allen (TX)

Record: 5-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, vs. McKinney, 7 p.m. CT

The Eagles were off last week.

2. Waxahachie (TX)

Record: 5-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, vs. North Crowley (TX), 7 p.m. CT

Waxahachie had the week off.

3. North Crowley (Fort Worth, TX)

Record: 5-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, vs. Waxahachie (TX), 7 p.m. CT

The Panthers were off last week.

4. North Shore (TX)

Record: 6-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, at Summer Creek (TX), 7 p.m. CT

There’s no defense in the Lone Star State playing better than the Mustangs right now. With a 41-0 win over Humble (TX), they’ve posted three straight shutouts.

5. Bixby (OK)

Record: 5-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, at Edmond Memorial (OK), 7 p.m. CT

In a game that was over before it started, the Spartans led Westmoore (OK) by 66 at the half en route to an 80-0 victory. Junior quarterback Reece Madden had a night to remember, completing 11 of his 12 pass attempts for 197 yards and five touchdowns.

6. Randle (Richmond, TX)

Record: 5-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, at Iowa County (TX), 7 p.m. CT

The Lions’ offense has been unstoppable over the last few weeks and that carried into last Friday night as they crushed South Houston (TX) 78-0. Texas five-star running back commit Landen Williams-Callis once again had another night to remember as he rushed for 327 yards and five touchdowns on only 15 carries while also throwing for a touchdown pass.

7. Broken Arrow (OK)

Record: 5-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, at Westmoore (OK), 7 p.m. CT

In what’s seemingly become a trend for the Tigers, they won again and they won again big as they crushed Edmond Memorial (OK) 44-7. Senior quarterback Shamar Banner was big in the win, accounting for 264 all-purpose yards and four total touchdowns.

8. Guyer (TX)

Record: 4-1

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, at Lewisville (TX), 7 p.m. CT

Guyer quarterback Carter Morgan was nearly flawless in what was one of the best showings for the Wildcats this season. They crushed Denton Braswell (TX) 51-7 as Morgan was 21-of-25 passing for 289 yards and four touchdowns.

9. Prosper (TX)

Record: 4-1

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, vs. Rock Hill (TX), 7 p.m. CT

The Eagles were off last week.

10. DeSoto (TX)

Record: 3-2

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, at Lancaster (TX), 7 p.m. CT

The Eagles were off last week.

11. Southlake Carroll (TX)

Record: 3-2

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, vs. Northwest (TX), 7 p.m. CT

The Dragons were off last week.

12. South Oak Cliff (Dallas, TX)

Record: 3-2

Next game: Thursday, Oct. 8, at Seagoville (TX), 7:15 p.m. CT

With a 68-0 win over Molina (TX) Friday night, the Golden Bears are now averaging 62 points per game during their current three-game winning streak. Friday’s performance of the night belonged to Jayden Williams as he completed all seven of his pass attempts for 248 yards and four touchdowns.

13. Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, CO)

Record: 5-1

Next game: Thursday, Oct. 8, vs. Northfield (CO), 7 p.m. MT

In terms of complete performances, Friday night was the Bruins’ best of the season. Cherry was never really tested as they rolled past Arapahoe (CO) at home 42-0.

14. Duncanville (TX)

Record: 2-3

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, vs. Mansfield (TX), 7 p.m. CT

The Panthers were off last week.

15. Carl Albert (Midwest City, OK)

Record: 6-0

Next game: Friday, Oct. 9, vs. Durant (OK), 7 p.m. CT

The last week has seen two of the nation’s longest winning streaks snapped leaving the Titans alone at the top. They upped their winning streak to 59 games with a 41-6 win over Noble (OK) that also snapped Bixby’s 11-man record for consecutive wins in a row.
