The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka of the six-match home series, scheduled for December 13, will now be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. According to Jagran, the match, which was supposed to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, has been moved to Gujarat.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) had said last month that it had requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to move the ODI because it wanted to carry out renovation work at the ground, including the relaying of pitches and the outfield.

DDCA said the renovation was aimed at bringing the stadium’s facilities in line with modern cricketing standards. The upgraded playing surfaces are expected to improve conditions for players and the overall match-day experience for spectators. A new quick-dry drainage system is another key feature of the redevelopment.

The changed venue means that two of the three matches will be held at the one-lakh capacity Motera Stadium. The team will travel West on December 13, before going East to Bengaluru on December 16 and then returning back for the third ODI, which was already scheduled for the stadium.

Match Date Venue
1st ODI December 13, 2026 Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
2nd ODI December 16, 2026 M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
3rd ODI December 19, 2026 Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
1st T20I December 22, 2026 Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium
2nd T20I December 24, 2026 Barabati Stadium, Cuttack
3rd T20I December 27, 2026 MCA Stadium, Pune (Gahunje)

The Delhi ground was scheduled to host Ranji Trophy fixtures against Gujarat, Services and Maharashtra, along with women’s and age-group competitions.

According to Sportstar, Palam and Jamia Millia have been shortlisted as alternative venues. The DDCA is also exploring the possibility of staging women’s and junior matches at Roshanara Ground and Karnail Singh Stadium, where railway authorities have promised infrastructure improvements, including possible floodlights.
