Google has unveiled a next-generation enterprise AI agent capable of planning and executing complex, multi-step workflows across business applications, transitioning Gemini from a conversational assistant into an autonomous workplace agent. Announced at a Google Cloud event, the agent allows enterprise users to delegate broad operational objectives. It independently plans tasks, coordinates subagents, and accesses internal databases, corporate memory, and specialized toolsets to fulfill requests before a planned consumer rollout.
Underneath the hood, the agent features deep integration across both native and third-party enterprise ecosystems, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, Snowflake, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. Operating with its own dedicated Google Workspace account, email address, and audit trail, the agent automatically selects optimal foundation models for each task—including third-party models like Anthropic’s Claude alongside native Gemini models—with corporate admins retaining full multi-model routing and real-time spending controls.
To ensure enterprise governance and accountability, Google introduced a dedicated task inbox allowing employees to monitor code execution, tool usage, and work delegation in real time. Backed by early enterprise adoption from brands like Shopify, PayPal, On, BNP Paribas, and Merck, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian emphasized that prioritizing enterprise deployment allows Google to refine security, scale, and administrative permissions across organizational workflows before expanding agentic capabilities to consumers.
