Jon Gosselin is coming to his son’s defense.
After the October 13 release of Collin Gosselin‘s memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood — in which he accused his mother, Kate Gosselin, of abusing him as a child — Jon, 49, spoke out both to congratulate his 22-year-old son on the book and to support him.
“First and foremost, I couldn’t be more proud of my son’s heartbreaking memoir and his mission to help other victims of abuse,” Jon told Us Weekly in a statement on Thursday, October 15.
Jon, who shares twin daughters and sextuplets with the Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum, 51, also appeared to respond to Kate’s recent remarks, in which she seemingly claimed Collin suffered from mental illness.
“Also, let me be very clear: If you continue to falsely label my son Collin as ‘mentally ill,’ you will be held accountable,” he continued. “As you know, Collin has been evaluated by multiple independent psychiatrists, and that narrative is proven categorically untrue.”

“Repeating false claims about his mental health is damaging to his reputation, his credibility and his future,” Jon maintained. “Consider this fair warning: The days of using mental health to discredit and silence my son are over.”
While Jon didn’t name Kate directly in his statement to the outlet, his comments come after Kate appeared to address Collin’s “mental illness” in an October 10 comment on her TikTok.
In response to a fan who told Kate she was “doing a great job keeping [her] head up” amid Collin’s tell-all book, the former TV personality wrote, “I know rational logical [people] or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what’s going on here. I had nothing to do with it.”
Kate has long denied allegations of abuse against Collin, with her attorney telling The U.S. Sun in 2024 that he didn’t believe she had done anything to “intentionally harm” Collin.

He also said “she did what she did to protect herself and her family” from what he called Collin’s “troubled behavior.”
Previously addressing Collin’s new book, Kate responded to a follower in the comment section of a June 2026 TikTok video who suggested she sue her son for defamation if his accusations were false.
“If you are 100% certain that the accusations against you are lies, my suggestion would be to take him to court and sue him for defamation!” the follower wrote.
“I can’t bc I’m a public figure,” Kate replied at the time. “Rules are different unfortunately. Or I def would!”
