An Indian designer has gone viral after turning an everyday kitchen essential into a space-saving invention that caught the attention of investors on Shark Tank USA.
Rahul Agarwal, founder of Polygons Design, secured a $350,000 (approximately Rs 3.1 crore) deal from investor Lori Greiner and guest Shark Mindy Kaling for his origami-inspired measuring spoons, which replace a conventional six-piece set with just two foldable tools.
The deal, featured in Season 18, Episode 4 of the business reality show, valued Agarwal’s company at $3.5 million (approximately Rs 29 crore). Greiner and Kaling jointly offered $350,000 in exchange for an 8% equity stake and an additional 2% in advisory shares, taking their total stake to 10%.

Kaling praised the invention as “really ingenious” and “very useful”, recognising its potential to simplify a routine kitchen task.
How the measuring spoons work
Polygons is designed around a simple idea: instead of storing several measuring spoons of different sizes, users can fold two flat tools into the required measurements.
According to the company, the larger spoon can measure half a tablespoon, one tablespoon or two tablespoons, while the smaller one measures a quarter teaspoon, half a teaspoon or one teaspoon. Users pinch the spoons at marked points to fold them into the desired size.
At just 2.8 mm thick when flattened, the tools are designed to take up minimal space in kitchen drawers, making them particularly useful for compact kitchens and people looking to reduce clutter.
The company said the spoons are made using food-grade thermoplastic and hydrophobic silicone, with embedded neodymium magnets. The foldable design combines the functionality of six conventional measuring spoons into two compact tools.
Rahul Agarwal’s pitch stood out for rethinking an ordinary utensil rather than introducing an entirely new kitchen appliance. The design combines multiple measurements in a single tool, while its flat profile makes storage easier.
