Oklahoma City Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison has been named Best NBA Mascot in the USA Today Sports Readers’ Choice Awards.
The award is decided through public online voting, with fans casting ballots for nominees selected by a panel of USA Today Sports experts.
Rumble has previously received recognition from the NBA. In 2009, he was named NBA Mascot of the Year.
In 2022, Rumble was named the inaugural Community Impact Award winner at the NBA Mascot Conference.
Rumble also appears at more than 200 community events each year.
“Rumble has quite the dramatic backstory. Being the lone bison left after a ferocious storm in the Arkbuckle Mountains, he helped his friends to safety before climbing a peak. There, he was hit by lightning and received incredible powers. Yes, the Thunder mascot was struck by lightning: Synergy at its best. He has more than 61K followers on Facebook. In his first season in OKC (2008-09), he earned the NBA Mascot of the Year Award. He also received the inaugural NBA Mascot Community Impact Award in 2021-22 for his extensive work in the community.” – USA TODAY
