College football Week 8: Live updates, schedule, scores, rankings

Going into the half of the afternoon slate, we’ve got some pretty notable close games to keep an eye on. Let’s breakdown the action.

No. 11 Tennessee at South Carolina

No. 11 Tennessee leads South Carolina 21-17 going into the half.

For a minute, though, it was all LaNorris Sellers.

South Carolina’s signal caller has been mean on the ground and through the air, commanding the Gamecocks’ offense thus far. In two quarters, Sellers has racked up 193 total yards of offense for two total touchdowns.

Sellers’ second quarter interception and the Gamecocks’ overall ball control issues have significantly slowed South Carolina’s offense.

Defensive back Vicari Swain was ejected after a targeting call with less than two minutes until halftime, putting a massive hole in the Gamecocks’ defensive scheme.

No. 2 BYU at UCF

With four seconds left on the first half’s clock, Keyone Jenkins didn’t waver.

Jenkins found Landen Chambers on a flat route for a 6-yard touchdown pass to tug the Knights ahead 17-14.

BYU’s Bear Bachmeier has recorded 161 offensive yards and two touchdowns thus far, but his stats haven’t quite been enough for a Cougars’ lead.

No. 13 Alabama vs. Texas A&M

The Crimson Tide are tied up with Texas A&M, 17-17.

Alabama’s offense is missing it’s foundation, Ryan Coleman-Williams, but have figured out how to make up for his absence.

Keelon Russell has connected with five different receivers so far, including a Daniel Hill touchdown pass and 109 receiving yards from Rico Scott in the first half.

The Aggie defense has stifled the Bama run game however, only allowing 25 rushing yards in the first half.

TAMU quarterback Marcel Reed threw two quick interceptions in the first quarter, including a pick-six on the Aggies’ first drive.

No. 9 UCLA vs. Michigan State

Despite the Bruins’ 105 rushing yards compared to the Spartans’ 32, UCLA has a narrow 14-7 lead on Michigan State. UCLA is just one of four remaining undefeated teams in the FBS as it earned its first top 10 ranking since 2022 last week.
