Pak vs Eng Stats – Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf break last men standing records

89-run unbeaten 10th wicket partnership between Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf against England in Lahore, the highest in a successful ODI chase, surpassing Deryck Murray and Andy Roberts’ previous record of an unbeaten 64 for West Indies against Pakistan in the 1975 World Cup.
113* Shadab’s score while batting at No. 8 on Sunday, which is the highest by any batter at No. 8 or lower in ODI cricket. Two others have scored centuries at No. 8: Ireland’s Simi Singh against South Africa in 2021 and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz against India in 2022.
Six batters have scored more than Shadab’s 113* while batting at No. 8 or lower in List A cricket. However, it is the joint-highest among Pakistan batters. Shahid Iqbal also made 113* for Karachi Whites in the 1999 Tissot Cup.
46.5% Shadab’s contribution to Pakistan’s total of 243. It is the second-highest contribution by a batter at No. 8 or lower to an ODI total of 100-plus runs. The highest is 46.88% by Chamika Karunaratne, who made 75 in Sri Lanka’s 160 all out against Australia in 2022.

Shadab scored 80.71% of the team’s runs while at the crease, 113 of 140, after walking to bat at 103 for 6. He contributed 91.01% of the 89 runs put on by the final wicket with Rauf finishing 7 not out in 19 balls. Shadab had 68 of the first 69 runs of this unbelievable partnership.

112 Runs Pakistan added after the fall of the eighth wicket, with Shadab alone scoring 100. Only one team has added more runs with the last two partnerships in a successful ODI chase: Sri Lanka, 136 against Australia at the MCG in 2010.

2 Shadab and Rauf finished with the second-highest 10th wicket partnership for Pakistan in ODIs, behind the 103 between Mohammad Amir and Saeed Ajmal against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi in 2009. It is also the second-highest against England.

There are only three final-wicket partnerships that have yielded more runs than the 89 that Shadab and Rauf were able to put on. Michael Holding and Vivian Richards hold the record with 106 unbeaten runs against England in 1984, Mohammad Amir and Saeed Ajmal added 103 against New Zealand in 2009 and Kemar Roach and Ravi Rampaul managed an unbroken 99 against India in 2011.
England built a 40-run 10th-wicket stand before Pakistan put on an unbeaten 89, as the tenth-wicket stands from both teams on Sunday amounted to 129 runs, a new ODI record. The previous highest was 116 runs set by Pakistan and New Zealand in 2009.

2 Previous instances of England losing back-to-back in men’s ODIs by a margin of two or fewer wickets. Those losses took place in 1996 and 2003. Here, England lost to Sri Lanka by two wickets and to Pakistan by one wicket. Five other teams have suffered such defeats in successive matches, with India the most recent. They too suffered a two-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka, followed by a one-wicket loss to Pakistan in the Asia Cup in 2014.

3966 Balls for Shaheen Shah Afridi to pick up 150 ODI wickets, making him the second-fastest bowler to the mark. Another left-arm quick, Mitchell Starc, needed only 3857 balls. Sunday’s game was Shaheen’s 80th ODI appearance, making him joint fourth-fastest by matches to 150 wickets, and second-fastest among Pakistan bowlers.
2 Hundreds for Ben Duckett in Pakistan. He is the first England batter with multiple ODI hundreds in the country. Both of them came in Lahore, and both ended in defeats. He previously scored 165 against Australia in last year’s Champions Trophy.

Duckett now has five ODI hundreds, but only one in a win, against India at Lord’s earlier this year. Three of the other four ended in defeat, while one was in a washout. Among men with five or more hundreds, only Harry Tector (all five ODI tons in defeats) and Brendan Taylor (only two of 11 ODI hundreds in wins) have had worse luck.
