NEW DELHI: Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) said on Thursday that it would invest $1 billion in Meta‘s equity offering under a strategic partnership, which also includes the deployment of AI infrastructure for the latter’s Muse AI agent. AMD said it is deploying AMD Helios rackscale solutions at Meta and powering Meta’s Muse AI agent with AMD EPYC processors. This collaboration builds on years of co-design and partnership between the two companies. The partnership spans AMD EPYC processors, AMD Instinct GPUs, AMD Pensando networking, and AMD ROCm software. These technologies support Meta services and its expanding AI infrastructure.“Meta is a strategic partner for AMD, and we have built this partnership through years of deep technical collaboration – from EPYC processors powering Meta’s infrastructure to Instinct GPUs and open software supporting its AI workloads,” said Lisa Su, chair and CEO, AMD. “With Helios now running at Meta, we are taking that partnership to a new scale in the superintelligence era.” “AMD has been a key partner in building out the compute that’s running our frontier models,” said Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, “We’re making big investments in the computing power that will enable us to bring personal superintelligence to everyone, and AMD plays an important role in that.”Meta has deployed “millions of EPYC processors” across multiple generations and is a lead customer for 6th Gen EPYC CPUs, according to a joint statement. The companies are also collaborating on future generations, including “Verano.”AMD Instinct GPUs are used in Meta’s infrastructure for training, ranking, and recommendation engines. Meta was an early definition customer for the AMD Instinct MI450 architecture and will deploy a custom AMD Instinct GPU optimised for its workloads. This collaboration also informs future AMD platforms, including AMD Instinct MI500 series GPUs and next-generation rack-scale systems.AMD and Meta have advanced ROCm through PyTorch to enable developers to use AMD GPUs. AMD also provided Day-0 support for Meta’s Muse Spark Open models on AMD Instinct GPUs and for Muse Glimmer on AMD Ryzen AI PCs and AMD Radeon GPUs.The software collaboration has expanded to large-scale AI training and optimising recommendation models on AMD Instinct MI350X GPUs. Both companies are contributing improvements to PyTorch, Triton, and ROCm for broader developer use.AMD and Meta are aligning product roadmaps and engineering decisions for current and future Meta workloads. This aims to address the demands of operating AI infrastructure for billions of people.
