We’re sending a very special birthday shoutout to silver screen icon Julia Roberts, who’s got so many exciting plans in store for the year ahead (btw: tix to her Broadway play Small Mouth Sounds went on sale this week!) Today the ever-stylish star with the megawatt smile turns 59. To celebrate, we’re shopping for an affordable spin on one stylish fall look we spotted her in this month in Paris: It’s deconstructed and chic with a sexy little wink of androgyny.
While I’d love to slip into the exact Me & Em jacket, argyle sweater, and balloon trousers and SoleBliss sneaks that she just wore, I’m hyper-aware that I don’t have what she has in that Delvaux purse. Not even close. If you too are left pining for such a fit, good news: I just found some top-rated lookalikes with the same vibe — and they start at $23. (As for her signature accessory — that smile — Roberts revealed to InStyle back in 2012 that brushing with baking soda is her affordable hack.)
Loose, flowy pants look killer with an oversize blazer. You could go for a true trouser, with a button and zipper closure, but these have an effortlessness that we could get into for fall. One five-star reviewer called them “better suited for spring and fall weather” and notes that the “waist is figure-flattering.”
Don’t splurge on the blazer, but don’t skimp either. Quince offers this single-breasted blazer made with recycled Italian wool at an affordable price. It’s fully lined and features practical flap pockets.
The jacket’s 4.7 rating from Quince shoppers has our attention. “It’s substantial without feeling heavy, it’s oversized but only slightly and still looks polished and put together,” wrote one fan. “The textured brown color is very versatile, a cool brown that almost looks charcoal to me.”
Go dressy or casual in this zippy slip-on sneaker with gold accents. The lightweight platform shoe has a dark body and white sole, like Julia’s pair, plus memory foam cushioning.
After nearly a year of wear, one fan reported back: “I choose them 75% of the time and I still think they’re just as cute as the first time I put them on! They hardly show any wear and the insoles don’t have any breakdown. The material is easy to wipe off or just throw in the wash!”
I’d never spend thousands on something that holds 20 bucks, but I do like a good shape! Like Julia’s purse, this small red top-handle bag with a flap doubles as a crossbody. Prefer the woven design? Grab it in black, burgundy or light brown.
“I have been searching for a vintage-style red bag for ages. I love this one,” wrote a happy Amazon shopper. “The brass hardware is darling. I can fit a large thick wallet, keys, lippie and a few other small items.”
Warm but not too warm, prep school yet cool: This collared argyle sweater strikes the right note for fall. Wear it under a blazer, over a tee or on its own. (Loving the brand’s red-and-gray sweater vest, too.)
