Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the unidentified woman fell from the balcony of her stateroom on board the Carnival Firenze. She was traveling with her family, who alerted the ship’s crew.
“Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones,” spokesperson Julie Leonardi said in a Monday night statement.
Leonardi added that “all appropriate authorities have been alerted” and that law enforcement officers were scheduled to board the ship while it was docked at Catalina Island, California.
The ship was due to travel from Catalina to Ensenada on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
The 1,000-foot-long Carnival Firenze is an Italian-themed ship with a range of Italy-themed bars and restaurants and space for more than 5,000 guests. The company’s website says it has “Terrazza staterooms,” which “give you a stylish, comfy place to unwind from all the fun,” plus access to a private deck.
Carnival made headlines in November last year when 18-year-old Anna Kepner was found dead on board the Carnival Horizon ship. Her stepbrother, identified only as T.H., was arrested in February and federally charged with her murder, and pleaded not guilty at a court hearing last week.
