AI content is everywhere, but how useful is it really when it comes to generating new leads or making people want to sign up for new services?
The content is fast and clean, and it can cover pretty much any topic. So, how come it doesn’t DO anything? Why don’t people want to act after they’ve read it?
Because it isn’t written like that, you can easily give AI a topic, and it will come up with a catchy title that will definitely catch the readers’ attention.
But then what? They’ll move on and forget about what they’ve read.
How do you fix that? Let’s find out.
AI is great at writing, but it lacks that certain something that gets people to do something based on what they read. They’llread the entire article, and then… Click away.
For example, take someone who’s trying to build apps with worldwide weather intelligence. They’ll stumble upon an article that’s excellent in structure, but all it does is list features. It says nothing about how to apply those features to actual decisions like logistics.
So, what ends up happening is the person leaves because they haven’t really read anything useful.
It Answers the Topic, But Not the Reason Behind It
If you ask AI a question, you’ll get a thorough answer.
So, in the case of that reader who wants to build an app, they’ll get features, data sources, API endpoints, etc. But that reader also probably needed to know how to reroute trucks before a storm or how to use the forecast on humidity to change their inventory. And AI never touches on that.
The result? AI didn’t actually help, so although it covered the topic just fine, it totally ignored the intent behind the question.
It Tries to Speak to Everyone
AI is a people pleaser.
It spits out generic content because that’s what has the best chance of being accepted worldwide, but the problem is that it still doesn’t apply to everyone. So, it kind of stays in the middle of the road, and that’s it.
The reader can’t actually connect to the content because it doesn’t cover EXACTLY what they’re after.
So, if someone doesn’t feel like what they’re reading was created for them, they’ll lose interest.
It Avoids Anything Risky
Good content shows the good and the bad. So, you’ll see something like ‘this works for X, but if you’re doing Y, here’s where you might run into problems.’ Most AI content won’t even touch that because it looks like you’re mentioning downsides, and AI doesn’t really like that.
However, those trade-offs are exactly what make content feel grounded, so if you pretend like every choice is peachy, it sounds fake, and readers rightfully don’t trust it.
It Just… Ends
The paragraph is over, so you scroll down, and… Game over. That’s it. Nothing on what you should do next, no bridge from reading into doing. People need a nudge, like try this tool, ask this question, etc.
Without that, people close the tab and go about their business. 10 minutes later, they forget they ever read the text.
How to Fix AI Content and Make It Convert
It’s completely possible to fix AI content, but people make it look harder than it is.
First, start with the action you want. Before you even write anything, you need to be clear about what the reader should do next. So, not ‘understand better’ or ‘learn more.’ You need something they can actually do, like sign up for a trial or compare pricing plans.
So, write that down and keep it in front of you so you don’t forget.
Then, think about where the reader is, and write according to that. This is really important because someone who’s just starting out with research doesn’t need the same information as someone who already knows what they want. If you mix those up, you’ll lose both of them, so keep it simple and clear. You’ll also want to pick an example so that what you’re writing feels more concrete.
One example is enough; don’t flood the content with too many of them because that’s just fluff.
Now, go through the whole text and cut out repeats. The text has to have a logical progression, so the reader is moved forward with every new sentence.
You shouldn’t be saying the same thing twice, so if you find that, strike it out.
Conclusion
AI gets a lot of bad rap. As useful as it is, you can see plenty of people calling content ‘AI slop.’ But AI isn’t the enemy. In fact, it’s an excellent starting point, and the ‘AI slop’ problem comes from lazy people who are looking for a shortcut. They’ll figure they can run a prompt, copy whatever comes out, and that’s it. And if you use AI this way, you’ll never get anywhere.
AI should be used for the structure and the facts. You know, the basic shape of whatever you’re doing.
The rest is up to you.
