The 20-team Little League World Series field is about to be narrowed to 16 participants.
The first elimination day of international baseball’s biggest youth tournament will see four squads that lost in the first round survive and advance at the expense of four other teams that will see their time in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, end.
After the Aug. 20 rainout and eight-game Aug. 21 schedule, the tournament is set to return to its regular cadence of four back-to-back games broadcast on ESPN’s networks.
The field is divided into United States and International brackets of 10 teams each, creating two separate races to the spots in the overall championship game on Sunday, Aug. 30. Teams compete in a modified double-elimination format until the championship game of each bracket, which is single-elimination.
