Bangladesh cricket news Nahid Rana to miss Asian Games 2026, targets return for Afghanistan series

Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said on Monday (August 31) that they are not considering Nahid Rana for the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan from mid-September.

Rana, who missed the just-concluded two-match Test series against Australia due to a side strain injury, returned to bowling in the nets after a gap of six weeks as he sweated it out at the BCB Academy premises on Monday.

The Bangladesh pace sensation is targeting a return to competitive cricket after a layoff due to the injury he sustained during the tour of Zimbabwe.

Despite returning to bowl in the nets, BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar told Cricbuzz on Monday that they are not ready to take any risk with him and, as a result, he will not take part in the Asian Games in September.

Rana will continue his rehabilitation with an eye on the Afghanistan series in October.

“We are not considering Nahid Rana for the Asian Games owing to his rehabilitation process,” Habibul told Cricbuzz on Monday.

“He (Rana) will return with the Afghanistan series. It remains to be seen whether he will play Test or ODI. But it is 100% confirmed that he will not play in the Asian Games,” he added.
