Important Notes: No. 7 UM Vs. Stanford Preview, TV Info, Injury Report, and More

It’s officially the first game day for the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes, kicking off the 2026 college football season against Stanford in California; here is the latest information needed to know ahead of tonight’s matchup, with live updates.

The Hurricanes are -3000 favorites to beat the Cardinal, who have +1300 odds for a major upset. The spread is set at -24.5, with the Hurricanes favored at -105 over the Cardinals at -115. The total over/under is set at 47.5.

UM:

The Hurricanes initially ruled out sophomores tight end Luka Gilbert (undisclosed/out for season) and cornerback Ja’Boree Antoine (undisclosed). In the first update, junior safety Dylan Day (undisclosed) was ruled out.

Junior running back Jordan Lyle (undisclosed) was ruled out in the second update. He’s currently facing charges of aggravated fleeing, eluding at a high speed, and reckless charging. The incident originally occurred in July, and then Lyle was arrested in August. It’s currently unclear if the 20-year-old Miami native traveled with the team.

The Hurricanes’ run-game defense will be tested by Cardinal junior running back Micah Ford. In last Saturday’s 37-27 win over Hawai’i, he rushed 25 times for 100 yards and scored three touchdowns. Last season, the Hurricanes had the sixth-best run defense in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

However, the departures of edge rushers Akheem Mesidor and All-American Rueben Bain Jr. will require defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman to adjust to new personnel.

“Stopping the run is always what we want to do on defense,” he said in Monday’s press conference. “We want to make teams one-dimensional, behind the sticks, gain advantages to get into pass rush or get them off track.”

Marquise Lightfoot, Damon Wilson II, Armondo Blount, and Herbert Scroggins III will be tested in setting the edges and being impactful at stopping the run.

Meanwhile, on the offensive side of the field, the biggest attention will likely be on the newly constructed offensive line. Four new starters will emerge, including veterans Samson Okunlola, Ryan Rodriguez, and Matthew McCoy. Freshman and former elite five-star recruit Jackson Cantwell is expected to play a significant number of snaps.

However, rotating several players shouldn’t be unexpected. The Hurricanes have a plethora of options for the offensive line.

Star quarterback Darian Mensah will make his Hurricanes debut. He’s expected to surpass last season’s success, given the talented supporting cast surrounding him. Mensah’s production will be monitored from the very first snap.

Despite Lyle’s absence, the Hurricanes’ deepest position is arguably running back. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson alluded to sharing snaps in the backfield with Mark Fletcher Jr., CharMar Brown, Girard Pringle Jr., and freshman Javion Mallory.

“We’re going to be a running back by committee,” he said in Monday’s presser. “I do believe in sharing the carries and abuse at that position. I don’t want one guy out there all the time. We’re going to utilize that room.”
