Before Mark Harmon returns to TV this fall, the folks at NCIS gave him a big shout-out.
The actor is set to reprise his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS: Origins season 3, and ahead of the October 6 premiere on CBS, the actor celebrated his 75th birthday on September 2. The NCIS social team marked the occasion, posting a series of photos of Mark with a heartfelt birthday message on Instagram.
“Join us in wishing a very happy birthday to the legendary Mark Harmon! 💙,” the caption read alongside photos of Mark as Gibbs over the years. “And mark your calendars—he’s back on-screen October 6th!”
When fans saw how NCIS celebrated Mark’s milestone birthday, they celebrated alongside him.
“We need to have a national Gibbs day,” one person wrote in the comments. “Happy Birthday Gibbs!! We love you 🎈🎁🎉🎂 omgggg he’s coming back 10/6 fr? I can’t wait to watch. Been begging for this 😂,” another exclaimed. “Have a wonderful Birthday 🎂. Welcome back Mark Harmon. I will start watching your NCIS again!!” a different follower added.
Mark originated the role of Gibbs on NCIS in 2003 and played him until he exited the show in late 2021. Since then, he’s lent his voice as the narrator of NCIS: Origins, which tells the story of Gibbs’ (played by Austin Stowell) youth at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s.
While we don’t know exactly how Mark’s portrayal of older Gibbs will fold into the NCIS spinoff, the show already teased his presence with a first-look trailer in early August.
“Gibbs is back and so is Mark Harmon,” the caption read alongside the teaser on Instagram. “NCIS: Origins returns on October 6!”
What a way to mark the beginning of Mark’s new era on NCIS!
