HyperVault, a subsidiary backed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), plans to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) data center campus in Hyderabad, Telangana, after securing 264 acres of land. The project aims for a planned capacity of up to 1GW, targeting frontier AI companies and hyperscalers with infrastructure designed for dense graphics processing unit (GPU) installations used in AI training, inference, and other advanced computing workloads.The development will be rolled out in phases, aligning with customer demand and evolving technology requirements. At full scale, HyperVault expects the campus to become one of India’s largest AI infrastructure sites. The build-out will incorporate green energy and water-neutral design principles, with HyperVault and its partners anticipating an investment of up to ₹70,000 crore to construct and manage the campus. This project is also projected to create several thousand direct and indirect jobs, driving demand across power, cooling, networking, construction, engineering, and operations sectors in the region.
Telangana government support
Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, described the project as nationally significant following discussions with HyperVault officials. Reddy stated, “This establishes that Hyderabad is now at the forefront of the global AI revolution with a strong focus on infrastructure. This decade is one of artificial intelligence. Access to AI models and compute is fast becoming public infrastructure, and having this compute reside in Telangana gives us an advantage.”D. Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister, linked the agreement to the state’s efforts to attract major technology projects. Babu explained that discussions for the project began during a conversation between the Chief Minister and N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, in Davos in January, leading to rapid progress by officials and HyperVault and TCS teams.
Company strategy and infrastructure focus
K Krithivasan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of TCS, stated that the development aligns with the group’s broader ‘Infrastructure-to-Intelligence’ strategy. He noted that Hyderabad offers the necessary scale, talent, and ecosystem to serve global customers, expressing appreciation for the Telangana government’s support and investment-friendly policies.Deepesh Kiran Nanda, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of HyperVault AI Data Centre Limited, highlighted that the project is being designed around the needs of evolving AI workloads. Nanda emphasised building infrastructure for higher density, liquid cooling, larger power blocks, and faster deployment, leveraging Hyderabad’s foundation to scale for frontier AI companies and hyperscalers.The substantial land parcel underscores a campus model approach, accommodating substations, advanced cooling systems, water management, and network links alongside server halls. A phased development strategy provides flexibility to match expenditure with customer commitments and advancements in chip design. For Telangana, the project enhances its industrial appeal, which is centred on efficient approvals, access to skilled labour, and Hyderabad’s established status as a technology hub.
