Barbados Tridents extended their impressive second-half revival into a fourth consecutive win, drubbing table-toppers Guyana Amazon Warriors by six wickets in the final league fixture of CPL 2026. While the result did little to impact the points table, the Tridents continued to ride their wave of momentum ahead of the playoffs, bowling the visitors out for 99 before chasing it down with 31 balls to spare.
Opting to field first at the Kensington Oval, the Tridents rallied on AM Ghazanfar’s three-wicket third over to rock the Amazon Warriors. The Afghan mystery spinner first had Mavendra Dindyal stumped, before removing Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer for ducks off consecutive deliveries. It was a setback that the Amazon Warriors could not recover from, despite Glenn Phillips getting off to a decent start.
George Linde and Johann Layne too struck off successive deliveries at different junctures. While Linde removed Glenn Phillips and Dwaine Pretorius in the eighth over, Layne dismissed Quentin Sampson and Ronaldo Alimohamed in the 13th, having also nabbed Mehidy Hasan Miraz a couple of overs prior. The Amazon Warriors were in disarray at 67/8, before a 31-run stand between Romario Shepherd and Imran Tahir dragged the innings along. Both batters then fell in quick succession as the innings lasted all of 18.1 overs.
There was an early wobble to the Tridents’ chase again as Zachary Carter and Quinton de Kock fell cheaply in the Powerplay. They managed just 33 in that phase, which too was a consequence of a couple of sixes in the sixth over. Sherfane Rutherford fell soon after to make things slightly interesting, but Sadrack Descarte backed up his half-century against Jamaica Kingsmen with another enterprising knock. He used the sweep and reverse-sweep expertly to unsettle the spinners, racing to 32 off 17 when play was halted briefly due to rain.
Descarte couldn’t add to his score after the interval as he fell to Mehidy but Brandon King, who had the best seat in the house throughout, got his side over the line as he finished unbeaten on 44. The Tridents, having finished third, will now face the Kingsmen in the Eliminator while the Amazon Warriors will face Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in Qualifier 1, with the playoffs to take place entirely in Barbados.
