Live: Nifty Holds 23,200 as Sensex Rallies 267 Pts; UPI MDR News in Focus | Closing Bell
The Sensex gained 267 points, while the Nifty held above the 23,200 level at 23,211, despite weak market breadth, with 2,246 stocks declining against 1,620 advances. FMCG, Media, PSU Bank and Realty stocks gained over 1% each, while IT and pharma stocks dragged the indices. NPCI has imposed a 0.4% MDR on UPI transactions above ₹2,000, putting Paytm, PB Fintech and CAMS in focus amid expectations of a revival in MDR. Global markets are also awaiting the US Federal Reserve’s rate decision tomorrow, with investors watching closely for cues from Fed Chair Jerome Powell. Asian markets were largely positive, with the Nikkei rising 0.36%, the Kospi gaining 1.37% and the Hang Seng remaining flat. Brent crude traded above $108 a barrel, while the rupee stood at 95.91 against the dollar. Among Nifty 50 stocks, ITC, HDFC Life and SBI were the top gainers, while TCS, Wipro and Infosys were the biggest losers.
