The Shivamogga district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a series of programmes for over a month from Thursday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and the completion of his 25 years in public service, BJP Member of Parliament (MP) B.Y. Raghavendra said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga, Mr. Raghavendra said the BJP would hold a month-long “Seva Sankalpa Abhiyana” from Thursday. “Narendra Modi took oath as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, and served the State for 13 years. Later, he has served the nation as Prime Minister for another 13 years. For the next one month, several programmes will be held to mark the occasion,” he said.

Special prayers would be held in temples across the district on Thursday. From September 18 to 24, the party’s various wings would hold “Namo Seva Gatha” — a cleanliness campaign by the Mahila Morcha, a blood donation camp by the SC/ST Morcha, a free health camp by the OBC Morcha, a cycle jatha by the Yuva Morcha, and street play performances by the cultural wing, he said.

As part of the events, the party would also mark Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary on September 25 and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. The party would hold an event to market indigenous produce, besides competitions for schoolchildren. The events would conclude on October 17, he stated.

Party’s district president N.K. Jagadish, legislators S.N. Channabasappa, Dhananjaya Sarji and others were present at the press conference.
