Nearly 1,000 pounds of beef jerky snacks sold in seven states have been recalled, according to a notice from the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The 946 pounds of ready-to-eat beef jerky products were packaged and sold using unauthorized USDA labels and were not actually properly inspected by the agency. As a result, the jerky may not meet U.S. food safety standards and therefore be unsafe to eat, the FSIS said.
Imperio Distribution LLC initiated the recall on Oct. 24 after standard FSIS surveillance uncovered the false labels. So far, there are no confirmed reports of illness or injury related to the jerky.
FSIS inspects certain imported meat, poultry and egg products after they arrive in the United States, even if they were previously inspected in their country of origin. The agency does this to ensure imported products meet the same food safety, labeling and regulatory requirements that apply to domestically produced goods.
Food imported without undergoing that process is often recalled because it may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk.
Here is what to know about the recall.
Which products are recalled?
All the recalled beef jerky came in 2-ounce sealed bags. The top of the package is “carne seca” in Spanish next to the English term “beef jerky.”
It was packaged between January and October 2026. All bear “1885” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
