In a move to give policing a sharper eye from the sky, the Chengalpattu district police has launched Project ‘Vaan Vizhi’, a pilot initiative that uses Artificial Intelligence and autonomous drones to strengthen public safety.
This initiative seeks to take aerial surveillance beyond conventional monitoring. Equipped with AI capabilities, the drones will autonomously scan areas, identify incidents and provide real-time aerial intelligence to the police.
The drone surveillance system provides high definition live feed for real-time monitoring and is used for proactive surveillance of vulnerable areas to ensure women’s safety and quick response to incidents.
The drone system will be useful for day and night operations since it has advanced night vision and also for monitoring gatherings and events to ensure public safety and smooth management, the police said.
