Saints start Zach Wilson, not Spencer Rattler, in Rams preseason game

Now this is interesting. The Times-Picayune and The Advocate’s Matthew Paras reports that it will be Zach Wilson, not Spencer Rattler, starting at quarterback in Saturday’s New Orleans Saints preseason game with the Los Angeles Rams. Wilson has been the third-string quarterback for much of the summer and was outplayed by Rattler throughout training camp, but the former second overall draft pick kept it close. When Wilson had more success in the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, playing in relief of Rattler, he opened the door to start cutting into Rattler’s practice reps. Now he’s getting a chance to prove what he can do right out of the gates.

Remember, it’s still preseason. The Saints aren’t going to play many of their starters, including QB1 Tyler Shough. But if Wilson can move the offense and make plays where Rattler couldn’t, he just might win this battle — and the roster spot that comes with it. Stay tuned.
