The first Twenty20 International between Afghanistan and India was in danger of being postponed by a day because of the BRICS Summit in the national Capital.
However, the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has stated that the match will go ahead as scheduled on Sunday. The final decision, however, is yet to be confirmed, with those involved in the conduct of the match maintaining that a change in schedule is still not off the table.
The match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium was facing security-related concerns arising from the Summit in the Capital, prompting the Delhi Police to seek its rescheduling. The DDCA, however, said late on Thursday evening that there is no change to the match date.
“India–Afghanistan 1st T20I on 13 September at Arun Jaitley Stadium will go ahead as scheduled. Following a meeting with Delhi Traffic Police, DDCA has been assured of all necessary support and arrangements,” the DDCA said in a social media post.
However, some sources say there is a push to put off the match by a day so that it can take place on the festival day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The other two matches of the three-match series are on September 15 and 17.
