Bangladesh pace bowler Nahid Rana is unlikely to get a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to take part in the upcoming Big Bash League, said Bangladesh Cricket Board sources.
It was reported that Bangladesh speedster Rana is drawing interest from BBL franchises that includes Adelaide Strikers as well as a Melbourne-based team for the upcoming season that is scheduled to run from December 12 to January 26.
“We are also seeing in different platforms that some BBL franchises are eager to secure Rana but we have not received any official letter for NOC from him. If he submits it, the board will decide whether he will get the NOC but chances are very slim for him to get the NOC considering the fact we have international commitments,” the official said.
The official added that the board is also mindful of the fact that the pacer just recovered from a Grade-2 side strain injury that prevented him from taking part in the two-match Test series against Australia.
“He (Rana) just recovered from an injury and we need to keep an eye on that as well because his fitness and workload is one of our top priorities,” the official added.
The 23-year-old quick, who returned to bowling earlier this week, is set to miss the Asian Games in September. The board expects him to return to action with the series against Afghanistan, scheduled in UAE in October.
Following the Afghanistan series, Bangladesh are also scheduled to play a two-match Test series against the West Indies at home in October-November as part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle. In November-December, Bangladesh travel to South Africa for a full tour, comprising two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
It was reported India’s tour of Bangladesh for a six-match white-ball series that was scheduled in September might be rescheduled in January, though the tour is yet to be officially confirmed or postponed with BCB president Tamim Iqbal still keeping his fingers crossed as far as hosting India is concerned. Bangladesh are also scheduled to host England for a two-match Test series early next year.
