Cost. If you’re eligible for USAA auto insurance, it’s a clear contender for low-cost car insurance. For those with clean driving records, USAA has the cheapest minimum-coverage rates among the companies we analyzed. It also has the lowest average rates for drivers with a speeding ticket or at-fault accident on their records.
Discounts. If your parents had USAA, you can take advantage of the Legacy Discount for up to 10% off. USAA also has discounts for new vehicles, low-mileage drivers, loyal customers and more.
Military-focused benefits. Features specific to military members include up to 60% off rates if you’re storing your vehicle while deployed and up to 15% off if you garage your vehicle on a military base. Also, coverage might be available overseas, depending on where you are deployed.
Quality metrics. Unfortunately, USAA has developed a poor track record for auto insurance complaints in recent years, based on data from the NAIC. Also, its collision-repair grades from the Crash Network are getting worse. USAA’s 2026 grade was just a C-.
