Colorado hotel earns spot on USA Today’s list of best haunted hotels

Haunted hotels feature everything from intriguing history and flickering lights to mysterious sounds and visits from guests who never checked out.

A Colorado hotel ranked among USA Today’s 10Best haunted hotels.

USA Today’s 10Best is a readers’ choice awards program that highlights the best in destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do. An expert panel selects their top picks for each category and readers vote to determine the 10 winners.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park took tenth place on the list. According to USA Today, the “dramatic, massive, white hotel seems to rise out of the Colorado mountains.” The hotel has a long, haunted history. But, it became most famous when Stephen King used it as inspiration for his book “The Shining.” The hotel hosts a variety of spooky tours that showcase its scariest spots.

Fainting Goat Island Inn in Nichols, New York, took first place as the best haunted hotel.
