The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Wednesday that they have appointed David Hemp as the head coach of the women’s national cricket team. Hemp will replace Sarwar Imran as head coach, who is expected to end his tenure in October after serving in this position since February 2025.
Hemp, 55, will begin his two-year stint with the national women’s team when he joins the squad in Brisbane for the upcoming ODI tour of Australia. His tenure will run until September 2028.
The appointment gives Hemp an opportunity to work with the Bangladesh Women’s team again, having previously served as the batting coach during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan in 2025 and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal earlier this year.
Hemp has been part of the BCB coaching structure since May 2023, when he took charge as the Head Coach of the High Performance (HP) programme. He was also assigned as the National Men’s Team’s batting coach in 2024. Prior to that appointment, he had been a part of the men’s team’s coaching staff during the tour of New Zealand in 2023.
Hemp has previously worked extensively in women’s cricket. He was Head Coach of the Pakistan Women’s National Team from 2020 to 2022 and also served as Head Coach of Victoria State Women’s Team and the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
