Deadlock City Never Sleeps Update Adds 6 New Heroes and Makes Numerous Map and UI Changes

Deadlock, Valve’s MOBA that has been in beta testing for nearly two years, has just received another major update, building on its previous UI refinements and adding six more heroes into the mix, to boot. The update is called City Never Sleeps, and Deadlock’s development team says that many of the new features and updates in this latest update have been in the works in parallel for several months.

The new heroes are Nurse Harrow, Rat King, Solomon, Deadman Danny, Baba, and Violet, although not much else has been revealed about them other than their tags. As with previous hero drops, the new heroes can be voted on from within the game, but there is a now a double hero vote for your first win of the day, and voting takes place in the pre-game lobby, where you can argue about who to vote for with your teammates.

The Cursed Apple is ever-changing, and these streets are nothing like you remember. A massive visual update to the map and neutrals, six new heroes, HUD updates, numerous quality-of-life additions, accessibility options, and more.

In the full update notes, Valve details the changes to the map, which now consists of the Yellow (York), Blue (Broadway), and Green (Greenwich) lanes, each of which has its own distinct zones where players can encounter new neutral creatures with new behaviors, like the Specimens in the Blue lane, Gutter Ghouls and Barrel Mimics in York, and the Past Dues in Greenwich. Each lane now has a very distinct visual language and history, with three sectors, each offering plenty of obstacles and cover for Deadlock’s customary high-mobility antics.

The update also introduces the four districts—the Theater District, Chinatown, Haunted Lot District, and Plaza District—each of which has its own haunt: the Stage Hands in the Theater, Crabbage Pots and Festival Spirits in Chinatown, Shrooms in the Haunted Lot, and Underhands in Plaza. There are also new challenges to give players extra opportunities to earn souls, and there are new Buff Containers, Tough Crates, and Healing Snacks scattered around the map for players to augment their gameplay, gather more souls, and heal up in sticky situations.

The in-game UI updates also usher in new health bars that offer a lot more information about the enemy’s current status, and there are now clear ally indicators, all of which should help players be more aware of their current status and how viable a confrontation is. Player buff status and stack indicators have also received an update that better communicates to players what they are capable of and what they may want to focus on building more throughout the match.
