Thousands of cans of dog food sold nationwide have been recalled because they may be contaminated with pieces of metal.
Fromm Family Foods issued the recall on two of its pâté canned dog food products after receiving complaints about metal contamination, according to an Aug. 21 notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The company said it is not aware of any pets having been injured or sickened by the products.
Dogs who have ingested metal may show symptoms like choking, vomiting or loss of appetite. Metal of any size can cause health issues in dogs like lacerations in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract, according to the notice.
“We have identified the error, and in addition to our existing safety processes, we have put corrective actions in place to prevent this from happening again,” Fromm Family Foods said in the recall notice.

Which canned dog foods were recalled?
The recall applies to more than 3,800 cases of Fromm’s turkey dog food and 1,900 cases of its meatloaf dog food.
The affected products were distributed to neighborhood pet stores and online outlets in the United States and Canada, according to the recall notice.

What to do if you have the recalled dog food
Anyone who has purchased the recalled products should stop feeding them to their dogs and return them to the retailer.
Dog owners whose pets are showing symptoms should contact their veterinarian for care, the recall said.
