Former India fast bowler, ICC match referee and Karnataka cricket icon Javagal Srinath has once again won the hearts of fans on social media with his simplicity. Known for terrifying opposition batters with his fiery pace during the 1990s, Srinath has always been equally admired for his humble personality away from the cricket field.
A recent photograph of him travelling like an ordinary passenger on Bengaluru Metro, standing with a trolley bag, has gone viral and drawn widespread appreciation from fans. Despite being a well-known personality, Srinath’s lack of arrogance and his willingness to use public transport have further added to the pride that the fans felt for him.
In the photograph from the Bengaluru Metro, Srinath can be seen standing with his trolley bag, dressed in blue jeans and a sky-blue shirt.
Most of the fans quickly reacted to the picture and even posted anecdotes of their own. Some said that they always see Srinath in Bengaluru, going about with his life without attaching the status of a former Indian cricketer to his name.
Some even commented that it was something common with the Karnataka cricketers and pointed out how the likes of Rahul Dravid and Venkatesh Prasad would show simplicity while being out in the public.
This is not the first time an instance of Srinath’s simplicity has caught people’s attention. Earlier, a fan had shared a photograph of him on LinkedIn, showing Srinath waiting for a train at Mysuru railway station with a bag on his back. His ability to live like an ordinary citizen without any fuss or fanfare has earned him widespread praise on social media.
India Today wasn’t able to verify when the picture was actually taken. Srinath led India’s pace attack during his illustrious career, playing 67 Tests and 229 ODIs.
After his playing career, Srinath has been working as a match referee for the ICC.
