Democrats have gained another favorable forecast ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Fox News is now predicting Democrats will retake the House of Representatives in November, becoming one of the latest major election forecasters to project a shift in congressional power as Election Day approaches.
The new outlook adds to growing signs that Democrats are positioned to regain at least one chamber of Congress after two years of unified Republican control in Washington. But while analysts increasingly see a Democratic path to a House majority, the fight for the Senate remains far tighter, with a handful of battleground races likely to determine which party controls the chamber in 2027.

According to Fox News’ latest power rankings, Democrats are projected to win at least 219 House seats, enough to secure a majority. Republicans are projected to win 198 seats, with 18 races remaining toss-ups.
“Combined with Democrats’ candidate quality improvements and a Republican-led redistricting effort that could fall short of expectations, the House is likely out of reach for the GOP this year,” Fox News contributor Rémy Numa wrote.
The network also suggested Democrats could expand their majority if toss-up races break their way.
“On a good night for the Democrats, the party will hold around 237 seats, or a gain of 22 from their current position,” Numa wrote.
Senate control remains up for grabs
The outlook is far less clear in the Senate.
Fox News projects each party is currently favored in 47 seats, leaving six races – in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Ohio and Texas – as toss-ups that could determine control of the chamber.
According to the network, a Democratic sweep of those six contests would give the party a Senate majority.
Other forecasters see a similarly close battle. Decision Desk HQ currently gives Democrats a 56% chance of winning the Senate while projecting Republicans to finish with 49 seats.
With six key Senate races still rated as toss-ups, the fight for control of Congress remains unsettled. The results of both the House and Senate races could determine not only which party holds power in Washington, but how much of President Donald Trump‘s agenda advances during the final two years of his term.
