Utah State brought in 19 Power 4 transfers to team with 12 returning starters after a wildly up-and-down 6-7 campaign ended with a loss to Washington State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Among the transfers is quarterback McCae Hillstead, who returns to Logan after starting four games as a true freshman in 2023 before transferring to BYU. Hillstead enters the season at the top of the depth chart, while the defense leans on Bronson Olevao at linebacker, defensive tackle Carson Tujague and safety Brevin Hamblin along with transfers Jordan Pendleton at linebacker and Tyree Morris up front.
Idaho State opened its season last Saturday, blowing open a close game with four third-quarter touchdowns in a 38-10 romp over visiting VMI. Jordan Cooke threw for 325 yards and four scores with one interception, combining with Eli Aragon, Zedekiah Anahu-Ambrosio, Julian Mason and Chedon James for TD strikes. Noa Calaycay returned a blocked punt six yards for a touchdown as well.
The Aggies own a 19-2 mark all-time against the Bengals, with the last meeting at 78-28 blowout at home in 2023.
