Vice President JD Vance paused his midterm campaign rally in North Platte, Nebraska, on Oct. 22 after a woman standing in a crowd behind him appeared to have a medical emergency.
Videos of the vice president speaking at the rally show supporters, standing on risers behind the vice president, growing concerned for an individual among them. A handful of attendees flagged down law enforcement to assess the situation.
While addressing the crowd, Vance stopped and turned to look behind him, pausing his speech. He eventually made his way into the group.
“Looks like we got a medical issue everybody, so let’s just say a prayer and hope everybody’s okay,” Vance said, before asking for his team’s doctor from the stage. As police officers stood over the attendee, others flapped campaign posters in hopes to circulate air toward her.
“We’ll all just stay calm and let these great doctors and law enforcement do their jobs,” Vance told the crowd, walking back and forth from the podium to the edge of the stage to oversee the incident.
“Everybody, while they are working on her, maybe those who are of praying type will join me in a prayer,” Vance said before leading the crowd in The Lord’s Prayer. Vance then made his way toward the medical personnel.
USA TODAY reached out to the White House for more information. Medical emergencies at campaign rallies aren’t uncommon, as attendees are often standing for long periods of time in large groups of people.
