Jos Buttler has been ruled out of England’s third ODI against Sri Lanka, with Surrey’s Dan Lawrence called into the squad.
An ECB spokesperson said: “Surrey batter Dan Lawrence has been called into the England Men’s squad for Sunday’s third Metro Bank ODI against Sri Lanka.
“Jos Buttler has been ruled out due to the hamstring injury he suffered in the second Metro Bank ODI at Headingley last night [Thursday] and will undergo further assessment.”
Lawrence has been withdrawn from Surrey’s County Championship fixture against Somerset and is set to train with England at The Oval on Saturday morning.

Jos Buttler was forced to retire after a hamstring injury during England’s second ODI against Sri Lanka .
Sri Lanka showed great fight to halt England’s chase and secure a 16-run victory at Headingley, levelling the three-match ODI series at 1-1, with Buttler’s hamstring injury adding to the hosts’ frustration.
The England batter had looked set to play a decisive role in the chase before pulling up in the 38th over, with the hosts 254-4. He was forced to retire hurt, leaving England’s pursuit of Sri Lanka’s total in the balance.
Buttler returned to the crease in the 48th over in a final attempt to rescue the chase, adding two more runs before being dismissed for 69. Will Jacks (52), Rehan Ahmed (0), Gus Atkinson (16) and Jamie Overton (2) also fell as England’s hopes faded.
England managed just one four and one six from the 37th over onwards as Sri Lanka’s bowlers tightened the pressure to seal a hard-fought win and level the series.
