L.E.A.D. Academy teacher arrested after allegedly selling pills to student, court documents say

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Court documents have revealed more details about the arrest of a teacher at a charter school in Montgomery.

Langston Carter, 30, was taken into custody Thursday after Montgomery police were called to L.E.A.D. Academy on the Eastern Boulevard.

Court records say a student was found in possession of two 5 mg oxycodone hydrochloride pills and 325 mg of acetaminophen pills. The student told officers he got the pills from Carter, his teacher.

The student said he paid $10 for the pills after Carter allegedly offered to sell them to him on multiple occasions. He was told to CashApp the money to Carter’s girlfriend, but he had to ask a fellow student to send the money because he didn’t have a CashApp account. Court filings indicate the transaction was later verified by investigators.

After the money was sent, the student got the pills from Carter in the classroom, according to court documents.

L.E.A.D. Academy confirmed Thursday that students were placed on lockdown that afternoon at the direction of the Montgomery Police Department “to ensure integrity of the investigation.”

Court filings say after hearing the accusations from the student, a K-9 officer conducted an open-air sniff outside of Carter’s vehicle. The K-9 indicated there was an odor, and police opened the trunk where they reportedly found a “sling style bag” with the following items inside:

  • 6.9 grams of marijuana
  • A digital scale
  • Empty plastic bags
  • 18.9 grams of mushroom-infused gummies
  • Nineteen 5 mg oxycodone hydrochloride pills
  • 325 mg of acetaminophen pills
  • A Beretta 9mm loaded handgun
  • Other narcotic-related items

In a statement posted Friday morning, the school confirmed the teacher, now identified in court records as Carter, has been fired.

Montgomery police say Carter is facing multiple felony charges including:

  • Possession of a firearm on school property
  • Two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance
  • First-degree possession of marijuana

He is currently being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $300,000 bond.
