Thailand began their Women’s Asia Cup campaign with a six-run win over Hong Kong in Dubai, extending their unbeaten record against them to eight matches.
Sent in to bat, Thailand were led by captain Naruemol Chaiwai’s 43 off 31, but a late collapse saw them lose seven wickets for 20 runs to finish on 120/9. Marina Lamplough was Hong Kong’s standout, taking 4/11 before scoring a quick 22 in the chase.
Hong Kong lost Mariko Hill for a duck but Kary Chan’s 28 off 20 gave them early momentum. Yasmin Daswani added 28, although her slow innings meant Hong Kong struggled to keep pace. Lamplough then gave the chase a boost with her 11-ball 22, but her dismissal for 84/4 left Hong Kong needing 37 from the final 27 balls.
Thailand kept their composure from there. Hong Kong could manage only 30 more runs and finished on 114/7, despite needing just 15 from the last over. Thipatcha Putthawong conceded eight and took a wicket in the final over to seal a narrow win for Thailand.
