There haven’t been many public updates on Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell’s injury status so far. But what has been announced has largely been good news.
Most recently, Lions coach Dan Campbell said that Jack Campbell was “improving” during a Tuesday, Nov. 3, radio interview, though he did not share any additional specifics about the linebacker’s condition.
Dan Campbell’s latest update came after Detroit posted a statement to social media on Monday, Nov. 2 providing an update on Jack Campbell. The Lions coach cited the statement in his own press conference later that day, sharing a similarly general update of his own.
“Your prayers are working,” Dan Campbell said. “Please continue to do that. We’ll leave it at that, so continue to pray for him. But it is positive.”
Jack Campbell sustained his scary-looking neck injury while making a tackle against Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson in the fourth quarter on Sunday, Nov. 1. He remained motionless on the ground after the hit, where he was attended to by training staff and medical personnel. The linebacker was eventually carted off the field and taken to a local Detroit hospital.

Jack Campbell injury update
Dan Campbell provided another small update on Jack Campbell’s status during a Tuesday, Nov. 3, radio appearance on 97.1 The Ticket.
“It’s not easy because he’s always going to be on our minds over here,” Dan Campbell said of Jack Campbell, when addressing the Lions’ preparation for Week 9. “The good news is he is improving.”
The Lions coach made it clear he is providing his players with updates about Jack Campbell’s status through the team’s captains.
“I think the thought of him – knowing he’s doing better, and I’ve kept the captains up to date, and they’ve let the other guys know its good news,” Dan Campbell said, referencing how players were reacting to the situation. “I think that helps everybody just get a better handle on all this.”
Campbell also added that he is trying to keep his players focused on their upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, expressing concern that “bad things can happen” if players aren’t able to be all-in on their gameday responsibilities.
“All we can do at this point is just continue to pray for Jack,” Campbell said. “Put our thoughts on him when we have a minute, and on his family. And it’s working, like I said. Because he’s improving.”
Dan Campbell’s update mirrored the Lions’ most recent injury update on their All-Pro linebacker, which came via a statement posted to social media on Monday, Nov. 2.
“Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital. Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time,” the team said in its statement.
The Lions’ head coach provided some good news when he took the podium for his press conference later in the day on Nov. 2. While Campbell didn’t share any details about his team’s linebacker, he told reporters things were generally positive.
“It’s positive,” Dan Campbell said. “Your prayers are working. Please continue to do that. We’ll leave it at that, so continue to pray for him. But it is positive.”
Pressed for more information, Campbell said he couldn’t share anything else. He added that he briefed the Lions’ captains on the linebacker’s latest status after the coach visited him in the hospital, and he said the team “knows what’s going on.”
“I got to go see him last night,” Dan Campbell said. “It was good, it was positive. I got to see his parents, talk to his wife. You know, everybody’s in good spirits. It’s about the recovery. It’s a small setback. That’s the family. They’re very positive, so that’s good in that regard.”

Who is Jack Campbell?
Campbell is a linebacker for the Detroit Lions.
The 26-year-old is in his fourth NFL season, all with Detroit. The Lions drafted Campbell with the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft after he starred in college for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Campbell broke out during his junior season with the Hawkeyes, totaling 143 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a sack in 2021. Returning for his senior season, Campbell was named an All-American in 2022 and received the Butkus Award as the top linebacker in college football.
He also received the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the “academic Heisman,” in 2022 for being recognized as the college football player with the best combination of academics, leadership and on-field performance.
Campbell slid right in as a key piece of the Lions’ defense after arriving in the NFL. However, he didn’t officially break out until his third season. Campbell recorded 176 total tackles, three forced fumbles and five sacks en route to being named a first-team All-Pro and earning his first Pro Bowl appearance last season.
On May 21, 2026, the Lions recognized Campbell’s breakout with a four-year, $81 million extension.
Prior to his injury in Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season, Campbell hadn’t missed a game in his four-year career.
