Scott and Johnson ready for Australia opportunity

South Australian cricket will be strongly represented across Australia’s upcoming white-ball series against England, with Liam Scott and Spencer Johnson earning ODI call ups, alongside fellow South Australian’s Travis Head and Alex Carey.

Johnson has also been named in the T20 squad alongside South Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk, taking the states representation across the two squads to five players.

Speaking to the media following their selection, Scott and Johnson were both excited to pull on the Australian colours, with the prospect of playing in front of a home crowd at Adelaide Oval something they are looking ahead to.

“Anytime you get picked to potentially represent your country, it’s a nice little feeling,” Scott said.

“Hopefully I get the opportunity over the next three games and show what I can do.”

The all-rounder said he was feeling confident in his game, across both batting and bowling and has been eager to deliver a big performance early in the season.

“I’ve got full confidence in my game… self belief that if I go out, I can have an impact and do well for whoever I’m playing for.” Scott said.

For Johnson, selection across both the ODI and T20 squads is another milestone in his return from injury, with the left-arm quick pleased to be building consistent performances at state level.

“This is the most games leading up to a series I’ve played,” Johnson said.

“I’ve strung a couple of ODIs together, a game for South Australia, and I’m looking forward to it.”

The pair are looking forward to testing themselves against an England side boasting plenty of experience, with Scott acknowledging the significance of the upcoming series.

“India and England are probably the two biggest series you can play against in world cricket,” Scott said.

“They’ve got a quality outfit, some unbelievable players and have done it for long periods of time, so we’re looking forward to getting out there in front of some really big crowds and hopefully getting a few wins for the country.”

The ODI series gets underway in Perth on Friday November 13, before returning to Adelaide Oval on Sunday 15 November. Get your tickets HERE.
