USA TODAY Sports Plays of the Week: Vote for top play of Week 2

A wild week of high school football and the continuation of an already-exciting flag football season meant there were no shortage of impressive plays.

Within this week’s USA TODAY Sports Plays of the Week highlight package are five plays from across the country.

Here’s a breakdown of each play, an opportunity to vote for your favorite play and then a how-to for submitting your own video for Play of the Week consideration.

High school football rankings: USA TODAY Sports Super 25, Week 3

Cass Tech (MI) quarterback Donald Tabron II connects with Mylan Griggs for a TD

In our first play for consideration, Texas A&M quarterback commit Donald Tabron II finds Mylan Griggs, who made a leaping grab for the touchdown catch.

Cass Tech went on to beat Michigan City 62-0 to open its season at 1-0.

Shadow Creek (TX) BJ LaFell takes a fake punt to the end zone

Also up for this week’s Play of the Week is Shadow Creek’s BJ LaFell, who took a fake punt 60 yards the other way, weaving around the entire defense before waltzing into the endzone.

LaFell, who is the son of former NFLer Brandon LaFell, is ranked as a four-star athlete in the 2029 class and holds offers from the likes of Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Texas and countless others.

Central-Phenix City (AL) Savannah Sevier notches long pick six

Our lone flag football highlight this week, Central’s Savannah Sevier, a first-teamer on USA TODAY Sports preseason All-America flag football team, earned her keep with a long Pick 6 against Montgomery Catholic.

After the interception, the footrace was brief as Sevier blew by everyone on the field en route to the endzone, helping the Red Devils, who are ranked No. 1 in USA TODAY Sports’ Super 25 flag football rankings, to a 38-0 win.

Hamilton (AZ) JJ Diaz returns blocked field goal for a touchdown

JJ Diaz, a defensive back for No. 17-ranked Hamilton, helped the Huskies start their 2026 season 1-0 with an electrifying touchdown scamper that came off a blocked field goal.

Diaz went 95 yards the other direction to help give Hamilton a two-possession lead heading into halftime. The Huskies went on to beat Brophy College Prep 25-6.

Columbus (FL) A’mir Sears burns defender for a touchdown grab

Columbus two-way star and five-star Miami commit A’mir Sears had himself a day as he and the Explorers upset Bishop Gorman, which was the second-ranked team in USA TODAY Sports Super 25 heading into the game.

While Sears had no shortage of highlight-worthy plays on Saturday, him burning a defender en route to a touchdown grab is the clip you’ll find in this week’s Plays of the Week package.
