Beto O’Rourke will headline a Democratic rally as the Republican midterm convention continues for a second day in Dallas.
The “We the People: Rally for Democracy” will begin at 5 p.m. MT/6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Dallas City Hall Plaza, less than two miles from where President Donald Trump and other Republicans are gathering at the American Airlines Center.
Along with O’Rourke, the rally is expected to feature several Democratic officials and community leaders, including Colin Allred, Christian Menefee, Jane Kleeb, Alisa Simmons, Lon Burnam, Domingo Garcia, Patrice Jones and Gene Wu.
Organizers describe the event as a response to national Republican leaders gathering in Dallas and say a coalition of organizations, advocates, community leaders and residents will participate.
“As national Republican leaders gather in Dallas, we’re gathering too,” organizers said. “Because democracy belongs to the people. And when our rights and our future are on the line, We the People will stand together, speak out, and take action.”
The rally is free and open to the public.
The event comes as Republicans continue their first-ever midterm convention at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The two-day event Sept. 9-10 has featured appearances by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and other Republican leaders as the party looks to energize voters ahead of the November election.
