USA TODAY Sports Top IX flag football players of Week 3

More flag football games in the books means more impressively dominant performances across the country.

As we get deeper into the season, our playmakers are only getting stronger and more impressive — from JSerra’s Kate Meier making her second list appearance in as many weeks with 346 passing yards to St. Charles North’s Alexzandria Richardson putting up numbers on both sides of the ball — we’ve seen some amazing performances this week.

A reminder that this list is decided based on single-game performances by players on teams that made the USA TODAY Sports National Super 25 rankings this week — we know there are a ton of incredible performances beyond those confines, but our focus lies there for now.

Without further ado, here are the USA TODAY Sports Top IX from Week 3, listed alphabetically:

Alana Anderegg, No. 10 Vestavia Hills (AL)

She’s still just a freshman, but Aderegg isn’t wasting any time. Vestavia Hills blanked Westminster Christian 38-0 last week, buoyed by Aderegg’s incredible 245 passing yards for five touchdowns.

Scarlett Guyser, No. 3 Newport Harbor (CA)

Newport Harbor cracked the Top 3 in USA TODAY Sports’ Super 25 rankings for the first time this week, and a standout performance by Guyser helped them get there. The junior threw 12-for-15 in the Sailors’ blowout win over Los Alamitos, finishing with 134 yards and four touchdowns through the air alongside 59 yards on the ground.

Leni Greenberg, No. 15 Sierra Canyon (CA)

Leni Greenberg was everywhere in Sierra Canyon’s shutout of Immaculate Heart. The sophomore took a few snaps alongside senior Makena Cook, throwing for 114 yards and two touchdowns while also hauling in three receiving touchdowns.

Ava Harrison, No. 5 Orange Lutheran (CA)

A standout on a team of standouts, Harrison just keeps putting up numbers for Orange Lutheran. Against Beaumont this week, the junior logged 12 receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns. We know this list is based on single-game performances – but, just as an aside, Harrison also pulled in 11 receptions for another 125 yards and two touchdowns in their victory over Mater Dei Tuesday. Whew!

Kate Meier, No. 2 JSerra (CA)

Two weeks of our Top IX Playmakers list, two Kate Meier appearances. We thought this might happen. The sophomore quarterback for No. 2 JSerra completed 30 of her 39 passes in their 36-0 shutout of Santiago last week, totaling 346 yards and a whopping five touchdowns through the air.

Alexzandria Richardson, No. 18 St. Charles North (IL)

Richardson went off on both sides of the ball this week against Geneva, catching for 123 yards and a touchdown while also tallying two rushing touchdowns, five flag pulls and a sack. What a day.

Maine South (Park Ridge, IL) hosts Taft (Chicago) in an IHSA flag football game on Monday, Aug. 24 in Park Ridge, Ill.

Serenity Rutledge, No. 6 Moody (AL)

Moody moved up three slots in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Super 25 rankings, and Rutledge had no small role in that. The junior threw for 204 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 134 yards and, on the other side of the ball, tallying six flag pulls. As an extra impressive tidbit, Rutledge has thrown 70-for-83 throughout the season so far.

Kaitlyn Santos, No. No. 7 Willowbrook (IL)

The top team in Illinois just keeps growing stronger. The Warriors rolled over Downers Grove South 51-6, spurred by Santos as she threw for 197 yards and five touchdowns.

Brooklyn Hedricks, No. 20 Dos Pueblos (CA)

It’s time to recognize some defensive prowess, and who better to look to than Brooklyn Hedricks. The sophomore notched five flag pulls and three interceptions in Dos Pueblos’ shutout victory over Pacifica, just adding to her tally as the school’s all-time leader in interceptions.
