Kirti Azad denies viral gun audio, calls it ‘AI-generated’

Kolkata: TMC MP Kirti Azad has denied the authenticity of an audio clip allegedly featuring him threatening to carry a firearm for self-defence, calling it “false, manipulated and AI-generated”. He alleged that the clip was being circulated and broadcast by certain television channels as genuine.

In a public notice, Azad said the audio was part of a politically motivated attempt to manufacture a narrative and deliberately defame him. He stressed that the clip had “nothing to do with reality” and criticised the broadcasting of unverified material.

The clarification comes days after Azad reportedly made controversial remarks about carrying a firearm following incidents in which political leaders were allegedly targeted with eggs. Speaking in his parliamentary constituency, he had said that they were also seeking firearm licences for self-protection, asserting that they had the right to defend themselves.

Azad, however, maintained that the audio clip currently in circulation was fabricated. He said responsible journalism required verification before broadcasting such material and argued that no political agenda could justify presenting fabricated content as fact.

He further said he had instructed his lawyers to take strict legal action against those involved in creating, circulating and broadcasting the alleged fake content. Appropriate proceedings, he said, would be initiated against those found responsible.
