Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and their talking-toy pals are back for another adventure in “Toy Story 5,” now streaming on Disney+. In the latest sequel, Greta Lee voices Lilypad, an irresistible tablet at odds with the franchise’s old-school toys over who gets to rule playtime. Globe film critic Odie Henderson gave “Toy Story 5” three stars, writing in his review that the movie’s evil technology story line put him “back on team Woody and Buzz.” Henderson also praised Brookline native Conan O’Brien for his role as a potty training toy, calling him “just delightful here.” Available on Disney+
‘Saturday Night Live’
Season 52 of “Saturday Night Live” kicks off Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC, also streaming live on Peacock (the episode will be available to watch the next day on Peacock as well). Comedians Grace Reiter and Saidah Belo-Osagie join the cast, which includes returning fan favorites like Kenan Thompson, Ashley Padilla, James Austin Johnson, Sarah Sherman, Mikey Day, Marcello Hernández, plus Weekend Update’s Colin Jost and Michael Che. NBA champion and Knicks star Jalen Brunson hosts Saturday’s season premiere, with Katseye serving as the evening’s musical guest.
2026 MTV Video Music Awards
Hosted this year by rapper Snoop Dogg, the MTV Video Music Awards return Sunday night with a live simulcast on CBS and MTV starting at 7:30 p.m. (premium Paramount+ subscribers can also stream the show live; the awards will be available to watch the following day on Paramount+ and MTV as well). Madonna will open the festivities, her first VMAs performance since her legendary 2003 opening number with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift will take home the VMA’s first-ever artist director honors.
‘The Great British Baking Show’
The streaming equivalent of comfort food, season 14 of “The Great British Baking Show” arrives Friday on Netflix. Check out the latest batch of amateur bakers, as the new crop of 12 contestants battle for baking glory. Available on Netflix
Just in time for the Halloween season, the buzzy 2026 horror hit “Backrooms” streams on HBO Max beginning Friday. In his feature film directorial debut, Kane Parsons brings the liminal frights of his spooky web series of the same name. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, “Backrooms” follows a furniture store owner who finds a supernatural doorway to a bunch of creepy and connected rooms that aren’t for the faint of heart. The film has earned over $400 million at the global box office this year, becoming the highest grossing movie of all time for studio A24. Available on HBO Max
